Icebreaker by Hannah Grace

Publication Date: August 23, 2022

Plot: Anastasia Allen has worked her entire life for a shot at Team USA.

A competitive figure skater since she was five years old, a full college scholarship thanks to her place on the Maple Hills skating team, and a schedule that would make even the most driven person weep, Stassie comes to win.

No exceptions.

Nathan Hawkins has never had a problem he couldn’t solve. As captain of the Maple Hills Titans, he knows the responsibility of keeping the hockey team on the ice rests on his shoulders.

When a misunderstanding results in the two teams sharing a rink, and Anastasia’s partner gets hurt in the aftermath, Nate finds himself swapping his stick for tights, and one scary coach for an even scarier one.

The pair find themselves stuck together in more ways than one, but it’s fine, because Anastasia doesn’t even like hockey players…right?

MY THOUGHTS:

So evidently hockey romances are my new favorite genre?! This book is SO GOOD. A little sweet, a little smutty, and plot twists you didnt see coming. 10/10 recommend!!

This book was EVERYTHING. I MEAN EVERYTHING.

This is honestly one of the best books I read this year. I think I’ve been desperate for a good college sports romance since reading Elle Kennedy's Off Campus series, and Icebreaker does it beautifully. I really can’t wait to read the rest of the series because there are so many characters that I want more of.

Now the romance? Top tier. You really can’t go wrong with a commitment-phobe ice skater and a hockey captain who is just one of the best book boyfriends I have ever read. I really liked how they were frenemies and became real lovers. I can’t wait for the rest of the series, this is truly one of the BEST sports romances, college romances I’ve read in a long, long time. And for this author's debut novel? Hands down sensational.

This wasn’t the typical third-act conflict type of book. NOPE. It was riddled with ups and downs, but you can’t help but feel everything with these characters. It had depth and was just amazing until the end. It had SO many of my favorite tropes, and the found family trope was the stinking CUTEST. It reminded me a lot of how much I loved that aspect of the Off-Campus series, and I just adored it more the further I got into the book.

They gave me all the feels. The soft touches. Nathan randomly tucking Anastasia's hair behind her ear. The forehead kisses. The way she calls him “bub” 🤭

𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗛𝗔𝗪𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗦 is my newly anointed HUSBAND from sports romance. This man is the most caring and loving creature that managed to work his way into my soul. He’s so thoughtful, and his inner monologue is so funny. But their banter is even better!!

Also, side note: ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR MY MAIN MAN HENRY TURNER!!! HE IS A KING. CANNOT WAIT UNTIL HIS BOOK!!

I’m genuinely so impressed this is a debut novel, and I cannot WAIT to read more from Hannah Grace!!

“I can’t believe you think I could ever reject you, Anastasia,” he said in shock. “You have no idea, do you? The lengths I’d go to if you’d let me. What I’d do to make you happy.”

“Anastasia, you are the best thing to ever happen to me, and to call you the love of my life does not do justice to how much I love you. My existence doesn’t make sense without you by my side. For the rest of our lives, in the next life, in every alternate reality, I’ll be yours if you’ll have me. You are my best friend, my greatest gift, and Mila—and Bunny—are so blessed to have you as their mom.”

"I only want you, Anastasia. Nothing you can buy me is better than the past 4 weeks with you. Give me more of that, and I'll be happy."

"Her fingers thread through my hand resting on the table and her laugh is soft and musical. Her eyes are shining as she tries to hide her smile. She's mesmerizing."

"I'm beginning to think you know me really well, Hawkins.""Of course, I know you well, Anastasia. You're my favorite subject."
